Prolific Offender CHARGED |
||
|
Hi all,
A prolific offender operating across Manchester City Centre has now been CHARGED with a significant number of offences relating to retail crime and violence committed within the city centre. The offender has been charged with: The offences occurred between August and October 2026 and predominantly targeted retail premises within the city centre, including a number of incidents at Manchester Arndale. The offending displayed a clear and persistent pattern of behaviour, with the offender repeatedly targeting high-value goods, entering stores, selecting items and leaving without making payment, often within a very short timeframe. On one occasion, a member of staff was injured whilst attempting to prevent the offender from making off with stolen property.
We anticipate that the offender will receive a significant custodial sentence, which will remove them from the city centre during the forthcoming Christmas period and help protect businesses from further offending and financial loss at one of the busiest times of year for the retail sector. Neighbourhood officers leading the investigation have also worked closely with partners at Manchester City Council to pursue a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). If granted, the order will place restrictions on the offender, including prohibiting entry to designated locations and businesses within the city centre. It is anticipated that the application will be considered alongside the criminal proceedings at the initial court hearing.
This result reflects the continued commitment of GMP, retail partners and Manchester City Council to tackling persistent offenders and protecting businesses, staff and visitors within Manchester City Centre.
Many thanks to all officers, staff and partner agencies involved in securing this outcome. | ||
